Ear Acupuncture Training

Everyone should have access to relaxation, rest, and renewal.

We are committed to reducing barriers and increasing access to community acupuncture and the benefits it offers. 5NP (Five Needle Protocol), also known as NADA, Acu-Detox, or Ear Acu-Wellness, is an effective, inexpensive, and accessible way to do this. Many of us are already working in community settings where providing 5NP would be a natural fit.

What is 5NP?

Developed by community activists beginning in the 1970s, 5NP, uses five specific acu-points on the outer ear. It is easy to learn and apply in a variety of settings and is especially condusive to group or community environments. Click HERE for a short video on how, in 1970s South Bronx, Black and Brown activists utilized acupuncture to free their communities of drug dependence.

Is it legal?

Every state has different regulations (click HERE for a U.S. database of state laws & regulations). In Vermont, anyone can learn and offer 5NP provided they have proper training in handling acupuncture needles and don't claim to be an "acupuncturist" or make any statements about curing illness. You can find the language in the Vermont law by clicking THIS LINK.

*See (Title 26: Professions and Occupations > Chapter 75: Acupuncturists >Subchapter 1: GENREAL PROVISIONS > § 3402. Prohibitions; offenses; exemptions; evaluating nonacupuncturists > Section (g)

Who is it for?

Anyone can recieve 5NP
This acu-protocol calms the nervous system and supports the transition from a 'fight, flight, or freeze' state to a 'stay and play' state. It can be provided to individuals in a one-on-one setting - but has the MOST impact when offered in a group setting. If you can sit still and quiet for 20-40 minutes, 5NP is for you.

Anyone can give 5NP
Five needle ear acupuncture protocol (in Vermont) is for anyone who completes sufficient needle safety training. We specifically hope to train people who already offer supportive services in their community. Counselors and therapists yes - but also nail technicians, reverands, librarians, activists, local theater directors, bingo callers - anyone who has a regular community they gather and commune with, who they care about and understand the needs of. We think of it as a tool and resource for community development and wellness support.
